DKM ExtenderBlack Box: tailor-made KVM extension for distances of up to 10,000 metersDKM Extender allows for loss-free transmission of video, audio and USB signalsHallbergmoos, February 2, 2011 – With the innovative DKM Extenders, Black Box, the IT and telecommunications specialist, presents an all-new, modular KVM extender series for the loss-free transmission of audio and video signals over distances of up to 10,000 meters (via single-mode cables). Besides digital video with a resolution of up to 2048 x 1152 at 60 Hz, the devices extend analog and digital audio, USB 2.0-, USB-HID (Human Interface Devices) and serial data. And with their modular design, users are able to configure a device that’s perfectly suited for their individual needs.
The innovative modular housing concept enables clients to have extenders tailor-made according to their individual requirements, with a wide range of housings and interfaces available and more video formats supported than ever before. As standard, the DKM transmitters allow for the loss-free extension of DVI-D single or dual video together with USB mouse and keyboard at a resolution of up to 2048 x 1152 and a color depth of 24 bit. With the corresponding interfaces, however, VGA up to 1900 x 1200 @ 60Hz, EGA, SDI, HDSDI, S-VHS, RGBHV, composite and component video can also be transmitted.
Depending on the cabling, different distances are possible: full resolution is ensured up to 140 meters via CATx cables, up to 400 meters via multimode cables, and even up to 10,000 meters via single-mode cables. “Thanks to the digital transmission of the video signal, the images are as crisp as if the monitors were directly connected to the workstation,“ Axel Bürger, Managing Director of Black Box Deutschland GmbH, explains. In addition, the extenders support USB keyboards and mice and almost all devices based on the HID protocol, such as touchscreens or WACOM graphics tablets. “Integrated true USB emulation even allows for the use of specialized keyboards and mice and their special functions. And with transparent USB transmission/switching available as an option, scanners, memory sticks and printers can also be added to the systems,“ adds Bürger. Furthermore, the transparent RS232/V.24 support (6 lines) makes the use of serial devices possible.
DKM Extenders are compatible with all operating systems as well as many KVM switches and can be integrated into most existing infrastructures without problems. With their perfect compatibility to the digital switch matrix ServSwitch DKM from Black Box, the extenders can not only be used to extend KVM signals, but also to create a switch matrix with up to 160 ports.
