About Emerald® KVM over IP
Emerald® is the first Enterprise KVM Extension and KVM Matrix Switching solution that delivers pixel-perfect video with Full HD and 4K/60 resolutions over an IP network.
The flexible and scalable system supports any number of workstations and servers. In addition, it simplifies virtual access, making it easy for you to use any combination of physical and virtual servers.
User’s working on the system experience fast and easy-to-use access to their target servers with premium video quality and a rich peripheral set supporting stereo audio and up to any four true emulated USB 2.0 devices including Wacom® tablets. Administrators will like the comprehensive management with convenient configuration options in line with a high-level security and reliable operation.
Your Emerald KVM network may start small with a point-to-point extension, but it’s infinitely scalable to meet your expansion needs and future technology path just by adding endpoints, with no additional chassis or cards required. Up to 32 endpoints no additional KVM management appliance is required, for larger deployments use Boxilla™ to manage your enterprise KVM network centrally.
Emerald® SE
Emerald SE provides users with a seamless desktop experience anywhere on a TCP/IP network, while allowing the actual hardware to be securely housed in a corporate data center or in the cloud. The performance of Emerald SE allows an easy deployment on standard corporate networks and even across Wide-Area-Networks (WANs). Emerald SE enables the same high fidelity experience of a desktop PC even for media-rich applications, for example, videos and photo editing, or 3D design . The remote desktops may be hosted on a physical PC/workstation or may be a virtual desktop hosted on a private server or in the cloud. Physical PCs/workstations/servers have an Emerald SE Transmitter unit physically connected to provide communication over the TCP/IP network. Desktop users connect their local keyboard, mouse, and screen, speakers as well as USB mass storage devices, and other USB devices to the receiver units.
Emerald SE provides Full HD DVI-D with resolutions up to 1920x1200, transparent USB, and analog audio. Link them in a point-to-point KVM extension over CATx up to 100m or even further using an IP or WAN connection. Connect multiple transmitters and receivers to an Emerald or IP switch to create a matrix switching setup .
Emerald® System Design
Emerald comprises of a choice of transmitters connecting computers or virtual machines to the system and Emerald receivers adding the user consoles. Choose from Full HD (single- or dual-head)and 4K/60 (single head) versions. High performance Emerald IP network switches ensure trouble-free KVM over IP extension and switching connections from12, 24- or 48-ports and allow for convenient KVM matrix switching. A range of SFP/SFP+ transceivers proofs best performing video quality and KVM extensions over the required distances.
Instant access across the whole Enterprise
Emerald makes your migration painless, enabling you to scale access infinitely and gradually across buildings, campuses and the wide area network, using your existing network infrastructure—with switching between sources at speeds of less than half a second.
Digital video at its best
Emerald is the first KVM plattform that supports HD or pixel perfect 4K DisplayPort video at 60 Hz (Emerald® 4K units) over standard IP network switches via copper or fibre cable. Image transmission with visual lossless compression transmits crystal clear HD video. Start with the Emerald SE-supporting full HD DVI video with resolutions up to 1920x1200-and migrate to 4K at your own pace by transitioning individual user groups when need arises.
Virtualisation
More and more physical servers are being replaced by virtualised servers allowing improved management, better availability, scalability and return on investment. Emerald simplifies access to both physical and virtual servers with virtual machine support for VMware®, Microsoft® and Citrix®, using RDP, RemoteFX and PCoIP.
Network Requirements
For HD video, Emerald requires a standard Gigabit Ethernet network and possibly a 10 Gigabit aggregate switch, depending on how many endpoints you have. For 4K video, you’ll need a standard 10 Gigabit Ethernet network with a 100 Gigabit aggregate switch. For both, the network infrastructure required by Emerald can be built with IEEE 802.3 standards-based components from Black Box or other manufacturers.
System Management
Emerald matrix switching networks can be managed via the receiver’s OSD or the central KVM management platform Boxilla®. Boxilla® is a hardware-based management appliance, featuring a user friendly, browser-based GUI providing a complete system dashboard. Manage bandwidth and user access, deploy new endpoints, update firmware and more. You can also prepare for instantaneous recovery from disasters with one-click access to an entire backup control room in a different location. The KVM main control room configuration can be replicated anywhere you have a network connection.
